This was my LOW ENERGY week but I did manage to complete all of my workouts. I don’t know if I ate something bad that stayed in my system for 6 days, or if I had a bit of a bug. I think it was a virus because several other people had the same thing last week. But whatever it was, it didn’t like my GI track so it revolted! Unfortunately, the revolt took a lot of my energy with it! Each day I seemed to get more tired and worn down. Thankfully, it ended on Friday, so I’m feeling good now and ready to take on another week!
I learned a few things this last week. Number one is practical: Plan workouts around rest rooms. Enough said. Number two is psychological: Feeling down physically can bring you down mentally! Tuesday was my big 3 hour Egypt Valley hill ride- this time with two of my strong biking friends- Danni (my trainer friend) and Chris (my friend who’s doing Ironman Arizona with me). Both of them were way ahead of me and waiting up for me at the top of each big hill. On a good week, this wouldn’t have bothered me. This week, it discouraged me and I struggled with negative thoughts. I’m usually a very positive person in workouts, keeping myself and everyone around me encouraged. Not this week. I’m human like everyone else and can get discouraged. But I didn’t stay there for long! Rebecca is back! : ) Number three: Don’t do mechanical things when I’m tired! I’m not very mechanically inclined to start with. Having mechanical issues when I’m feeling down just seemed overwhelming. Even switching out bike seats was ultra-frustrating.
Update on the bike seat- the verdict is still out. I’ve ruled out one of the trial seats. I’m trying a second one again this week. I’m still in my 30 day free trial so it’s all good. I’ve given up on the goggle search. My friend, Erin, even gave me a whole bag of goggles to try and they leak on me too. So, my contacts are really done with all this experimenting. I’m going back to the goggles I’ve used for years that don’t leak but give me headaches. I’ll be so excited on race day that I won’t notice my head hurting. That’s it for another week! See ya next time!
