Week 8- 135 miles including a half ironman race today. In my training, I’m into Kansas now. The states are flying by….. So this week was a recovery week with short workouts so I could save all my energy for today! I enjoyed some extra time this week including starting a new book and an afternoon at the beach with Tom. : )
Great race today- 70.3 miles and Tom got some really good pictures for the Kona Inspired Video for next year. ( more on that later!) My friend and training partner, Chris Mabie, finished first in her age group!! Way to go Chris! She’s so fast…..
I finished the swim in 39 minutes- about 5 minutes faster than last year. I always know in a triathlon when I have a fast swim- it’s when tons of people pass me on the bike! I just tell them all, “Good job!” and “Way to go!” as they whiz by. But I do have to admit that I passed a few of those same people on the run when they were walking and I was running. (That feels really good.) It took Chris 14 minutes to catch me on the bike, but she flew by and finished about 40 minutes ahead of me. She’s so cool!
It was a hot day today so I enjoyed munching on my storage of ice cubes for the run. If you’re not sure what I’m talking about, go back and read the blog titled, “I Need Water”. It’s my secret for staying cool. I get some strange looks from volunteers at the aid stations, but I don’t know them and I just keep running with a smile and a “Thank you!”
I hope to do a lot of icing tonight, get a long night’s sleep, walk a little tomorrow, and then jump back into the training schedule on Tuesday. We’re almost halfway through the training schedule for Arizona, and the last three weeks are taper.
