Another 150 miles this week and I’m in Texas. Well, not really in Texas, but I’ve traveled that far in my training so far. I should be in Arizona long before the November 17 Ironman. Should I head home or keep heading west toward Kona, Hawaii????
This week, I had three close encounters. The deer encounter was wonderful! I love getting close to them when I’m out running and biking. This beautiful doe was in the woods just 20 feet away as I ran past. I stopped for a few seconds just to stare at her beauty and but not long enough to spook her in case her baby was close by. God delighted me again.
My car encounter was not so wonderful. I was biking with Chris on the White Pine Trail and we were going through Cedar Springs where three or four roads cross the trail. I really did look both ways, but I didn’t see this car! It was a beige/gray color- the exact color of the road. Maybe that’s why I didn’t see it. Or maybe it just came up really fast. But thankfully, it stopped in time and neither of us were hit. God answered my prayers for safety and I’ll be more careful this week, I promise!
My snake encounter just gave me the creeps. I usually get more freaked when I see snakes running than biking. They’re just way too close to my body when I’m on foot and they slither across the trail. But somehow when I’m biking, I have visions of the snake getting caught in the spokes of the wheel and flipping up on me while I ride. I don’t think I actually ran over this racer, but it was close. I let out a scream and had chills going up my legs for a few seconds. But as I calmed down and kept riding, I realized how thankful I am to be training in Michigan and not back home in Alabama. The snake was as big around as my little finger, not my arm!! Enough said.
Thank you for taking the time to follow my training. I’m still tired and hungry and I would love your prayers for continued safety and good health! : )
