When it comes to adoption and orphan care, Mike TeBos is ALL IN. Mike, owner of Apex Controls, is a Team Orphans business sponsor, father of three adopted children, a runner, and a mountain biker. If that isn’t enough, his wife, Susan, is an author about adoption too.
Mike and Susan have three adopted Russian children- Matthew, Kola, and Lera. But their passion for adoption didn’t stop when their children came home. They have been supporting orphan care and adoption causes ever since. Two years ago, Mike was participating in a mountain biking race when he saw that one of the teams listed said “Team Orphans”. (One of my great friends and supporters, Danni Krooswyk, was racing and fundraising for Team Orphans that year.) Mike saw Team Orphans and just had to research it! He ended up contacting me and signing up for our Crazy Cycling Day fundraiser a few weeks later. That’s when I met Mike for the first time. Mike said that what attracted him to Team Orphans was this: “It was a grass roots idea. It was putting muscle into fighting for kids. It was another way to stay in the adoption community. We’re trying to make a difference.”
Mike is definitely making a difference! He and two of his close friends own Apex Controls, a controls engineering company in Hudsonville, Michigan with 40 employees. They started the company 23 years ago with Mike’s dad as the fourth owner. His dad has since retired and Mike, Aaron, and Tim now run the business. When they’re done running the business, they go running outside. Mike enjoys running with Team Apex, a group of employees and friends of his company. They have a team for the Fifth Third Riverbank Run each year. www.apexcontrols.cc
Mike’s wife, Susan, wrote a book on adoption, Before You Were Mine, Discovering Your Adopted Child’s Lifestory, in 2011 as a way for adoptive parents to help their kids. She wants all adopted children “to know about themselves, to experience healing from their losses. They have a story and they need to be able to feel it and to process it.” Susan, like Mike, is passionate about helping others. She writes for a passion just like I run for a passion. Susan’s blogs are truly inspirational and beautifully written. http://susantebos.blogspot.
Team Orphans is blessed to have Mike, Susan, and Apex Controls as very generous Team Orphans sponsors. They are faithfully living out James 1:27 ” Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. ” Thank you, Mike, and may God continue to bless you, your family, and your business.
