Team Orphans is blessed to have Generation of Colour as our official screen printer! They have been so generous and do everything for us at cost. This saves us HUNDREDS of dollars for every event or fundraiser. I met Jim Dalton, the owner of Generation of Colour, on Orphan Sunday last November. I had a Team Orphans booth set up at Frontline Church here in Grand Rapids, and I was talking to people about how they could get involved in orphan care by joining Team Orphans for one of our fundraising events. I saw nice looking man looking carefully at one of our t shirts on display. He then asked how much we payed for our shirts and screen printing. When I told him, he got a big grin on his face and gave me his card. He said, ” I try not to do business at church, but I love to use my business to serve God. I’d really like to help out Team Orphans.” That was the beginning of a great partnership! Jim does all of our shirts at cost. I, in turn, want to help advertise for him to help his business continue to grow.
Jim started his business in his garage seven years ago. After working as an architect for many years, Jim lost his job. He started working for another screen printer and soon decided, “I can do this!” He decided to go out on his own. He started Generation of Colour in his garage and four years later was able to move to his current building at 1711 4 Mile Rd, NE, Grand Rapids ( just south of Plainfield Ave).
Generation of Colour not only does fantastic screen printing, but they also do embroidery and promotional items like hats, pens, pencils, cups, etc. Jim works with businesses, schools, churches, contractors, and other charity organizations. He has contracts with many of the local schools including Northview, Forest Hills, North Pointe Christian, South Christian, Grandville, and Jenison.
Jim’s daughter, Christina, works for him as the graphic artist. She designed our Cycling Day and Virtual Ironman shirts, which have been huge hits! Jim also has an office manager, Carolyn, one full time screen printer during the day, and a second screen printer in the evenings. Jim says that his mission is simple, ” to offer the best prices and the best quality.” I can personally attest to the high quality of his screen printing. Before meeting Jim, I was driving to Grandville to get our screen printing done, only to find mistakes and spots on our shirts. Then I’d drive all the way back to return them and then again to pick up new ones. Thank goodness, I met Jim!
And if having a great screen printer ins’t enough, I’m greeted on each visit with Jim’s mascott- Bella. Bella is a 1 year old Pekingese who loves for me to give her a little snuggle. : )
